CNN and the creators of BEME develop media platform to connect with Millennials
American television network CNN seeks to create a completely new medium aimed at the Millennial generation with the acquisition of the Beme video application along with the integration of its creators Matt Hackett and the famous YouTube vlogger Casey Neistat.
After the acquisition of Beme for U.S $ 25 million, the application for mobile devices that permitted you to share four seconds videos was disabled on January 31. Its eleven employees, including Neistat, will join CNN to start a media platform that will focus on Millennial viewers.
Hackett himself, who was once vice president of engineering for Tumblr, said in a message to his followers that Beme had failed as a product but that CNN shared their ideals “Like us, CNN believes that technology should be used to share necessary information, to promote human understanding, not to simply manipulate attention. ”
Casey Neistat has nearly six million subscribers on his YouTube channel and will serve as executive producer of this new company that will operate autonomously under the CNN Digital umbrella. In addition, he will work on the construction of new mobile video applications for CNN’s digital properties.
