The wait is over! 2019 is here with new movies and series to please fans.
The new year is rolling in with brand-new seasons of some of TV’s hottest shows, series that have broken records on streaming platforms and conventional television. As for the big screen, classics are making their way back with remakes.
Early in the year we’ll see the premiere of “Glass,” the third film in the “Unbreakable” trilogy by director and screenwriter M. Night Shyamalan. Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson and James McAvoy star in the film. Sarah Paulson also joins the cast as Dr. Ellie Staple. The beginning of the year also brings thes eason 3 premiere of HBO’s True Detective.
Marvel Studios returns on March 8th with the release of “Captain Marvel.” The film follows Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel and is set to play into Avengers 4. The film is the twenty-first entry in the Marvel Cinematographic Universe. Academy Award winner, Brie Larson, stars as Captain Marvel, who will play a key role in the fight against Thanos.
The first quarter of 2019 also brings the premiere of DC Comics’, “Shazam!” the story of Billy Batson, a boy whose life takes an unexpected turn when he meets an ancient wizard. Zachary Levi stars as Shazam! The film is set to release on April 5, 2019 in the US.
April also calls for the return of the eighth and final season of “Game of Thrones.”After almost two years of waiting the HBO hit returns. The series which has broken several records including, most popular television program in the world according to Parrot Analytics, reached an average of 7,191,848 daily expressions worldwide and also accumulated the highest number of Emmy awards for a series in a single year back in 2015.
Netflix has also announced the return of “Money Heist” in 2019. The Netflix original series is the first Spanish series to win an International Emmy award and is the most-watched non-English show on the popular streaming platform. For its third season the series will introduce new characters; Bogota played by Hovik Keuchkerian, Alicia played by Najwa Nimri, Rodrigo de la Serna as The Engineerand Fernando Cayo as Tamayo. The season’s official trailer also teases the return of a character that had been thought dead, Berlin.
Amazon Prime is working on new projects for 2019 as well, starting with the second season of Fleabag, a dramatic comedy set in London. The second season is set to air on BBC Three and Amazon Prime sometime in 2019. The play which was adapted for television after a successful London run will have its Broadway debut in February 2019.
It doesn’t end there, fans can also expect new seasons of “Line of Duty,”“American Crime Story,” “Big Little Lies”, “Castle Rock”, “Homeland”, and “Veep” all available on different streaming platforms.
Disney Studios has surprised fans when they announced a number of live-action remakes. The 2019 line-up includes Aladdin which will premiere on May 24, 2019. This live-action adaptation of Aladdin includes Will Smith as the Genie who can grant three wishes to whoever possesses the magical lamp, the same lamp which appears on the movie poster.
Dumbo, produced by Tim Burton, also forms part of the line-up. The film will hit the big screen next March. Collin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Eva Green and DannyDeVito star in the film. Eight years since the most recent installment of the animated film “Toy Story,” the animated film company Pixar has announced that the fourth film in the series will hit theaters on June 21, 2019.
The Lion King, one of Disney's immortal classics, will also be back in 2019. The film company launched the first preview of the remake, which is planned to be released in the U.S. on July 19, 2019.
